I stayed here at the start of the Ridgeway. Very reasonably priced and with a lovely breakfast. Highly recommended for long distance walkers on a budget.

Huntlys Farmhouse B&B

Manningford Abbots, Pewsey SN9 6HZ, UK – 01672 563663

Staying here with a lifelong friend.. Margot and Dick are absolute stars.. and four legged friends Wood/Gus keep things in order. Everything about this place makes you relax. Wonderful.

Margot owns a lovely home in the quiet country of Pewsey England, about 30min from the Stonehenge, and she provides lovely tea or coffee in the morning, completely accommodating. WiFi for your connection needs, and lovely company for breakfast. I will never forget my stay at Huntlys farm.

The Royal Oak

35 North St, Pewsey SN9 5ES, UK – 01672 563426

Visited for lunch after a long walk there. Great food very welcoming staff and a good selection of beers and ales. Excellent pub

New landlord Russell is making continuous improvement in the bar and throughout the pub. The new menu is due out soon which I'm sure (the food) will be scrumptious.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Golden Swan

Wilcot, Pewsey SN9 5NN, UK – 01672 562289

First the good: Lovely location, good old pub, tasty food, friendly staff. The bad: very busy campsite with noise into the early hours and nowhere near enough showers/toilets. I would avoid camping at weekends and in school holidays. Rest of the time probably fine. The pictures of a hunt stopping at the pub on the walls just seem woefully bad taste nowadays. I know it's country culture, but such sadistic barbarity is best forgotten.

Simple camping in most lovely location. Facilities clean and the publicans very sociable. Make sure you go to the general knowledge quiz on the first Sunday of each month. Really well organised and food - bargain of the century at £2.50.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Campsites and Caravan Parks

Woodbridge Inn

North Newnton, Pewsey SN9 6JZ, UK – 01980 630266

We cycled and stayed for 1 nights camping. The site is beautiful with a lovely small river running along the bottom of the field with trout and chub. Fishing is available but is fly fishing only. The curry night in the pub was incredible - all home cooked and 7 choices of curry and a free pint thrown in. The facilities were mediocre at best. One toilet which was clean, 2 showers both clean but one was unusable because there was no light, and the urinals were unusable and full of stale urine. Value for money certainly as it only cost £39 for 2 of us camping and all you can eat curry with a drink. Hopefully they fix the small issues in the facilities as this really was an idyllic spot and lovely people in the pub. 3 stars as the urinals were just atrocious - but pushing 5 if they had fixed that.

Pretty acceptable Sunday carvery
